the nail studio

how I got to where I am

Hi, if you don’t know me I’m Jess and I run The Nail Studio. The Nail Studio all started in my bedroom in 2021 during COVID. I lived in Melbourne which faced some of the hardest restrictions. I was freshly 18 and had started my first year of university studying interior design. Locked in my room I missed having my nails done and I desperately needed a new creative outlet, so I revisited my childhood obsession which was nail art. I began teaching myself on instagram, tiktok and youtube, trying to figure out how to apply nails on myself and tips on nail art designs.

After using nail products without the proper education, I developed a gel allergy meaning I could no longer apply nails on myself. That’s when I discovered press on nails.

In 2022 I started my nail account on instagram. My love for nail art continued to grow as did my skills but I wanted a qualification and to learn the important skills I’d need if I wanted to take on clients. So in 2023 alongside my study, I signed up to a nail course learning the foundational skills of nail technology.

After this I started taking on clients at my home, but discovered that nail application was not my passion, but nail art was. That is when I made the permanent switch to press on nails.

After receiving my qualification and graduating my bachelor of interior design I felt a little lost as I no longer had something I was working towards. After some time I’ve discovered that my true passion is creating and making and at this stage, nail art is my favourite outlet. So I put all of my efforts into my business, trying to grow it and make it a sustainable income for myself.

I have many hopes and dreams about my business and where I would like it to go, but for now I’m happy with where it is at and the community I’m beginning to form.

my obsession with nail art

my love for nail art as an outlet for self expression has been long lasting. my first memory of doing my own nails was when I was 10 years old. I’d sit in my study spending hours working on my nail art with tooth pics and makeup brushes, following the classic trends of the time like water marbling and zig zag nails.
